About CYT Shows

CYT produces one Broadway-style musical each session. Enrollment in CYT classes provides students (ages 8-18) the opportunity to audition for their Affiliate’s current production. Students not cast in the show are encouraged to participate in other ways. Depending on age and ability, students (and siblings) can participate on the backstage crew, technical team, or the costume and makeup committees.

How Do We Cast Shows?

Casting a show is a very complicated process with so many variables. We encourage students and parents to watch this video that explains the casting process.

"I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being."

Thornton Wilder

Open Auditions

Any students, ages 8-18, who is currently enrolled in CYT classes is invited to audition for our current production. Auditions generally take place the Friday after the first day of classes for that session. Make sure to check the CYT calendar for dates and times. Auditions consist of a one-minute song performed for the Artistic Team. Callbacks take place the following day and will include opportunities for each cast member to sing, dance, and act for the artistic team in groups. Auditions are a wonderful way for students to gain self-confidence and to show the best of their talents! If your student is 12 years old or older and is interested in the backstage aspect of theater than crew might be of interest. To participate students must come to open auditions and complete a short interview.

Parent Production Teams

Parents are the backbone of CYT! Without them, CYT would not be the family-oriented organization that it is and could not produce the high-quality community shows that it does. At least one parent of each student cast in the production must serve on a CYT Production Team. Options include, but are not limited to: costumes, refreshments, props, greenroom, backstage, public relations, sets, docents, technical, make-up, programs, and house management.

School Day Performances

CYT brings the best in children’s theater to students throughout the county. Every production we schedule at least 2 shows that are set aside specifically for elementary school classrooms and home school groups. For a very low price, you can bring your whole classroom to experience the magic of theater.  We always include a time of Q&A after the production for the students to ask questions of the cast. If you'd like to reserve seats for your group, call our office at 503-272-6600.

Crew Resources

You can't have musical theater without crew! Stage crew and tech crew make the magic happen.  Click through to find resources for crew and tech.
