Class Description

***For Current Students of Horizon Christian Elementary and Middle School (2nd-8th grade)***
In theater they call it the “The Magic If . . . ”  What if you could be a giant?  What if you could be the best swordsman who ever was?  What if you could battle shrieking eels at sea?  What if you could drink poison on purpose and live to tell about it!  And what if you could do all of it and not have to sing or dance?  (Not that there’s anything wrong with that!). Well here’s your chance!  CYT@School is having a drama only class and it will be taught by Steve Wilent.  Along with learning how to memorize and express emotions and work as a team to tell an amazing story, Steve is looking for actors who want to focus on only acting and get better at it.  The class will all be working towards the production of “Inconceivable Scenes from The Princess Bride!”

Tuesdays after school you will join fellow Horizon students to develop acting skills to make your theatrical character(s) come alive and capture your audience.  It will all culminate at a Showcase for friends, family and classmates at the end of the term.

Steve Wilent

In 1979, Steve Wilent left a promising Hollywood acting career to attended Multnomah University in Portland, Oregon. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Bible in 1984 and went on to graduate with a Master of Divinity from Western Seminary in 1987. During these years Steve continued to perform using the dramatic arts to powerfully communicate spiritual truth with humor and relevance. After pastoring a church in a rural community, he moved with his family to the Portland area to help start a brand new church that was committed to using the performing arts as an integral part of worship and outreach. For the next 12 years Steve served as the Creative Arts Director at South Hills Community Church as well as co-leading the children’s ministry. For five years, 2004-2009, Steve was Artist in Residence at Salem Alliance Church in Salem, Oregon. He directed a talented team of actors who performed in the adult worship services. Over 6000 people attended the annual Christmas productions. In 2002 he joined Master’s Image Productions, as an associate actor, writing and producing one-man shows that have humor, heart and spiritual impact! Steve’s style is authentic, energetic and real! Steve is a published author, screenplay writer, film, television and radio actor and teaches workshops on acting, writing, improvisation and creativity. He has travel with his ministry, performing and teaching, to both Africa and India. He enjoys the outdoors as well as music, theatre, films, good books and great food! With a grin, he will proudly tell you that he has performed with Blue Man Group in London and that film director George Lucas once paid him to not be in one of his movies! In addition to performing, one of Steve’s biggest passions is writing. He has written hundreds of scripts for use in churches as well as writing for the screen. Some of Steve’s scripts are published by Lillenas Publishing and can be purchased through their website. Steve’s scripts are also available online at Master’s Image Productions.
