About CYT Shows

CYT shows are appropriate for the entire family and are an excellent way to introduce children to the arts! CYT Portland produces one Broadway-style musical each session. Enrollment in CYT classes provides students (ages 8-18) the opportunity to audition for a current production as a cast member or crew.

Our shows are a unique and exciting endeavor. We work together to create a professional production in just eight weeks. The show and rehearsal process are vital tools in our mission to develop character through training in the arts. Not only will your student learn to perform, but they will also learn who they are and their value as a member of the cast.

CYT Productions are fast-paced. We do an enormous amount in just a few weeks. There are loads of
details to manage, places to be, and responsibilities that all of us carry so that your student’s experience can be the best it can be. This manual has been designed to give you a clear picture of what to expect, what you and your student need to do and when, and how we all can work together for the best show possible.

Auditions Important Info

Any student, ages 8-18, who is currently enrolled in a CYT class is invited to audition for our current production. For detailed information about a specific show please read the show specific Production Manual. Links to the production manuals can be found above.   • Register for a CYT Spring 2024 Class
  • Sign up for an Audition Time
  • Thoroughly review the Production Manual for the show your student is interested in auditioning for by clicking the link above and learn everything it takes to be part of a current CYT Portland production.
  • Complete the Cast Audition Form or Crew Interview Form, Parent Team Form, and *Background Check Consent Form(*Only required if not previously submitted.), due February 16th!
  • Auditions (Open for family Viewing): Friday, 3:00pm - 8:00pm, March 15th, 2024.
  • Dance/Singing Auditions (Cast Auditioners Only)(Closed to family Viewing): Saturday, 9:00am - 11:45am, March 16th, 2024.
  • Callbacks (Invited Cast Only)(Closed to family Viewing): Saturday, 12:00pm - 2:00pm,  March 16th, 2024.

What to Expect at a CYT Audition

Production Parent Teams

Parents are the backbone of CYT! Without them, CYT would not be the family-oriented organization that it is and could not produce the high-quality community shows that it does. At least one parent of each student cast in the production must serve on a CYT Production Team. Options include, but are not limited to: costumes, souvenirs, props, greenroom, backstage, public relations, sets, technical, make-up, programs, and house management.

School Field Trips

CYT brings the best in children’s theater to students throughout the county. Literature from the classroom comes to life on stage in quality productions with colorful costumes, professional staging, energetic choreography and singing. All performers and crew members are students ages 8 –18.

CYT School Day performances are designed specifically for elementary, middle school classes and home school groups. The school day shows are typically only 90 minutes in duration. Last year, over two thousand students attended our productions.
